Rosemary Leaves

$14.95 – $53.82

Rosemary is an aromatic evergreen shrub with leaves similar to hemlock needles. It is native to the Mediterranean and Asia, but is reasonably hardy in cool climates. Special cultivars like ‘Arp’ can withstand winter temperatures down to about −20 °C (−4 °F). It can withstand droughts, surviving a severe lack of water for lengthy periods. In some parts of the world, it is considered a potentially invasive species. The seeds are often difficult to start, with a low germination rate and relatively slow growth, but the plant can live as long as 30 years.

Anise Ground

SPICES
$34.95 – $125.82
Anise is a member of the family of plants that includes carrots, caraway, cumin, dill, fennel, and cilantro. It has a strong licorice-like flavor and scent, and the essential oil is used to flavor licorice candy. Foods with licorice flavoring often contain anise and not any licorice at all. Anise is used in French carrot dishes, East Indian curries, Hispanic stews, and Scandinavian breads. It balances the flavors of bay leaf and cinnamon. Anise is also used to flavor liqueurs such as ouzo, anisette, pastis, Pernod, Ricard, anesone, ojen, aguardiente, arrak, kabib, and raki.

Annatto Seed Whole

SPICES
$22.95 – $82.69
Annatto Seed, Bixa Orellana, is the seed from a flowering tree of the Bixaceae family. This tree is also known as a lipstick tree, as much of the red color found in lipstick is derived from the dye found in the pulp which surrounds the Annatto Seeds. As a Spice Annatto is used most often in the Caribbean and Central America. Besides coloring foods Annatto also imparts a mild flavor. Annatto Seed is also an ingredient in Achiote Paste. Annatto Seeds are small triangular shaped, about 1/2 cm wide, and velvet red with a soft texture.ÊSuggested Use: Annatto works with beans, grains, rices and light meats such as chicken, fish and turkey. It's often used in preparation of vegetables such as okra, plantains, sweet potatoes, tomatoes, pumpkin and peppers. Ingredients: Annatto Seed. Basic Prep: Annatto seed oil is a common ingredient in Caribbean cuisine. Heat 1 cup of grape seed oil, add 2 ounces of Annatto Seeds and cook for up to 5 minutes (until the oil turns orange). Strain the seeds out and refrigerate. Also often spelled Annato, Anatto.

Arrowroot Powder

SPICES
$27.95 – $93.42
Arrowroot powder is a type of starch that can be used in place of cornflour. It is often used in baking, but is best used to thicken liquids – it's ideal for making clear jellies. Victorians credited arrowroot as having many health benefits, noting that it was very easily digested. Now, we know that while it's not particularly nutritious, it is high in carbohydrates and low in protein (or gluten). It's not a suitable wheat flour substitute for breadmaking, but it adds good flavour to biscuits.
Arrowroot is made from the tuberous roots of a number of South American plants. Any use of ‘arrowroot’ in connection with tapioca or tapioca root is incorrect and misleading.
